What exactly is an EIN?
Before we can explain how to get an EIN, you need first grasp what an EIN is and what it stands for. EIN is an acronym that stands for Employer Identification Number. It is sometimes referred to as a Tax Identification Number (TIN) or a Federal Tax Identification Number.
This number is unique to your company and is used by the IRS to trace the financial flow of your company. Employers, single proprietors, companies, partnerships, estates, trusts, certain persons, and other entities may all be granted an EIN.
What is the purpose of an EIN?
An EIN may be used for a variety of purposes. The primary reason for getting one is to submit your company’s taxes and for tax reporting. Every financial decision made on your company’s behalf will be associated with its EIN. Here are some other advantages:
Keeping the corporate veil intact
Employee Recruitment
International firms and overseas entrepreneurs will find this useful.
To keep your corporate veil intact, you should submit your company’s taxes separately from yourself. This prevents your assets from being taken away in the event of a lawsuit by differentiating your money from the money of the firm.
Using an EIN establishes your firm as a separate organization with its own expenditures and paperwork. It allows the IRS to keep track of where money is coming from and going to.
When you recruit workers, you must provide an EIN for tax withholding reasons. It will also be the identifier you use when filing your business taxes with the IRS at the end of the year.
If you are a foreign national, you may establish a company in the United States even if you do not have a Social Security number (SSN). The EIN enables you to receive compensation, distribute funds in and out of the firm, recruit personnel, and record and submit taxes as your business’s own entity.
As a foreign national, how can I get an EIN?
Unless you already have a Tax Identification Number, you will be required to complete Form SS-4, Application for Employer Identification Number, which can be found on the IRS website. This form is intended for international applicants who want to establish a company in the United States but do not have a Social Security number (SSN) or a physical address.
If your company was founded outside of the United States, you will be unable to apply for an EIN online.
As an overseas applicant, you may apply for an EIN in a variety of methods. Here are all of your options:
Phone – From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. to 11 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) It is not a toll-free number, but it is 267-941-1099.
Send – To apply, fax Form SS-4 to 304-707-9471.

To save money, if you prefer to apply for an EIN via phone, consider utilizing an online calling service. You can plan to spend at least an hour on the phone answering questions before receiving your EIN.
Fill out Form SS-4 before calling the IRS, since they will ask you the same questions on the questionnaire; doing so will speed up the procedure. Your EIN will be assigned to you at the conclusion of your chat with the IRS specialist. It should be written in the top right hand corner of Form SS-4, signed, and dated.
What exactly is a Third Party Designee?
You may designate a third party to receive your company’s EIN by filling out the Third Party Designee section. When you apply by phone, this authorizes the designated individual to both answer the questions on Form SS-4 and get your company’s EIN.
After the EIN is issued, the designee will no longer be authorized to contact the IRS on your company’s behalf. A copy of the form and the signed authorisation may be required.
