Many Americans adopt children from other countries, a practice known as inter-country adoption. There are various procedures you must follow before your kid may become a US citizen.

To begin, check if you (or your spouse) are eligible to adopt a child. Then, establish if the kid you want to adopt is eligible to come to the United States. This eligibility is determined by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services Office, and you may wish to consult with a lawyer before proceeding with your adoption.

The inter-country adoption procedure is governed by US federal law, the laws of the child’s home country, and the laws of where you live. A home study will also be performed to assess if you are eligible and fit to adopt a child. A credentialed expert conducts a home study in accordance with Department of Homeland Security requirements. If you want to adopt a special-needs child, the home study process will include conversations about your capacity to provide particular circumstances for that kid.

There are two systems in place for children adopted by US residents. The Hague Adoption Process is the first, while the Non-Convention Adoption Process is the second.

The Hague Adoption Process, which consists of six major procedures, is attended by around 75 nations. To satisfy all legal criteria for the Hague Adoption Process, you must do the following in the following order:
