These violent crimes have the potential to result in the most severe punishment available under the law, which in our nation may include the death penalty for the most heinous felonies up to and including capital punishment. Only a few other crimes have punishments that are as severe as crimes against the person, such as high treason and grand espionage, which are also political offences that carry severe penalties.

A person’s health and integrity, as well as his or her ability to travel freely, are considered under criminal law to be the subject of the offence. It is considered a crime of this sort if an effort is made to wrongly damage or jail another’s person without their consent.
